GETTING INSIGHTS

2 opmerkingen:

  1. Sorry for the weird placement of feedback, but all the buttons on your blog is in Dutch, so I couldn't find any other place to put it.

    Structure of the blog
In general the blog is well done. There is a well-balanced use of pictures and text. The blog contains thorough descriptions of the different tests that have been made, relevant and reflecting discussions about the test results, conclusions and redesign based on the discussions.

    Functional redesign and tests
The analysis of the visual structure of your homepage is very clear and well structured and we find your arguments for the grading of the different visual elements valid. The tests you made are all related to the colors of the website, thus it might also be interesting for you to make the blinking and the visual search test, which you can find on Blackbord. These tests can give you more insights into, which elements are easy and hard to detect for the observer.
About your results in the eye-tracking test, another way to get more consistent results might be to have more test persons. It could also be interesting to sort the eye-tracking test results in gender or age of the observers or maybe do a short interview with the observer after the test, to get a better understanding of why different things caught their attention.

    Aesthetic redesign
I think it is an interesting aspect to look at PhoneHouse brand identity and use their color palette, but it doesn’t seem like this is the case in your aesthetic redesign?

  2. Analysis
First the group started with analyzing the colors. They did this because they thought the colors used in the interface looked a bit off. According to them, this is due to a combination between warm and cold colors. Next up they analysed the colors for color blindness. Even though colorblindness is not a condition that occurs very often, it is nice that they looked into it, finding that the elements of the website were still represented in a correct way.

    Grading of visual elements
A clear description of elements and relevance is shown. This all seems pretty logical and is relevant for the redesign. The explanations for each element are also useful.

    Eye tracking
As they already stated: without any task or question it seems a bit random to do an eye tracking test like this. Even with a simple question like ‘tell me what this website is about?’ one could probably already find more consequent results and draw conclusions accordingly.
The rest of the setup seems clear and is not hard to read through.

    Redesign
The functional redesign doesn’t seem to follow directly from the sketches but does however meet the requirements and is good basis for redesigning the entire website.
The color palette is a logical step because of the brand colors but doesn’t seem to be well represented in the redesign impression.
The rest of this impressions is looking quite nice actually, especially the visuals on the product detail page.

    Discussion
According to the group, the navigation bar is the most important element of the website (“...without this navigation bar the user would get lost.”). Although the navigation through the website would be more difficult without the bar, it wouldn’t become impossible. Also a customer who is looking at the website, browsing for information, will not make use of all of the functions offered by the navigation bar. He will only click the category he is interested in, after which he most likely will no longer visit the navigation bar anymore.

    Additional tips
Use placeholder text for your redesign instead of randomly hitting some keys. Also make clear what certain text means, e.g. it’s not clear what the three times GALAXY S6 mean (similar products, different versions of the same phone).
